Learn a 3rd Language in 2027! — Beyond My Mother Tongue
Singapore is a multilingual society, but fewer children today grow up hearing and using more than one language at home. To bridge this gap, Kidz Meadow is introducing Beyond My Mother Tongue, a 3rd language programme designed to foster confidence and interest in communicating with others across communities.
Starting in 2027, every child at Kidz Meadow will learn a
second local language, from as early as infancy. Children taking the Chinese curriculum will learn conversational Malay, and children taking the Malay curriculum will learn conversational Chinese.
Conducted during assembly time for half an hour, the programme provides meaningful exposure to another local language in a fun and natural setting. Rather than treating it as a formal subject, children will learn through greetings, songs, rhymes, games, and everyday conversations.
Introducing another language from a young age lays the foundation for lifelong multilingual learning, while helping children build confidence, form meaningful social connections, and develop a deeper appreciation of Singapore's rich multicultural identity.
